On-line Forum on“Road of Industrialization in Developing Countries”

The World Engineers’ Convention 2004, co-organized by China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Shanghai Municipal Government, will be held in Shanghai from November 2 to 6, 2004. Prior to the convention, an on-line forum on “Road of Industrialization in Developing Countries” is now opened by the Chinese Academy of Engineering. We cordially welcome your participation in the forum.

 

I.         Time Schedule for the forum.

 

The duration of the on-line forum is from May 8, 2004 to the end of September 2004.

 

II.      Themes of the Forum

 

(1). How do developing countries realize industrialization under current circumstances like shortage of resources (energy) and environmental problems?

(2) How does information effectively improve industrialization?

(3) How to overcome problems brought by greenhouse gases?

(4) The responsibility and social status of engineers.

(5) How to improve engineer undergraduates’ creativity abilities and how to put engineering education into practice?

(6) Career development of engineering personnel (a common phenomenon in China now is most of personnel majoring in science and technology chooses jobs unrelated to their majors)

(7) Ethics of engineering personnel and the path of their growth.

(8) Among the three industries in China, service still takes a lower proportion while that of industry keeps increasing. How to develop the three industries harmoniously?

(9) Other information related to the World Engineers’ Convention.

 

III.   How to Access to the Forum

 

You may log on the web site of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (www.cae.cn), click “English Version” button at the top right of the page to enter its English version. You can post your views through the same way as mentioned above.

 

You can also access the English version of the forum through logging on the web site of the 2004 World Engineers’ Convention (www.wec2004.org) or directly visit http://61.151.243.209/forum/default.jsp.

 

If you want to visit the Chinese version of the on-line forum, just log on the web site of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (www.cae.cn) to access. You may send your views to the host after a simple registration.

 

IV.    Output of the Forum

 

Excellent articles posted on the forum will be compiled into books in both Chinese and English after the forum ends and be dedicated to the World Engineers’ Convention.

 

V.       Forum on Engineering and Technological Sciences Held by Chinese Academy of Engineering

 

Based on this on-line forum, a Forum on Engineering and Technological Sciences will be held by Chinese Academy of Engineering at either the end of September or the beginning of October. Participants in the on-line forum will be invited to the Forum by then. Details will be notified later.
