Consul General Liu Jian Greets the Chinese Delegation attending the 14th Special Olympics World Summer Games at LAX

On July 21st, Consul General Liu Jian greeted the Chinese delegation attending the 14th Special Olympics World Summer Games at Los Angeles International Airport. More than 100 local overseas Chinese, Chinese Americans and members of business and media community participated in the function, cheering, waving Chinese national flags and hoisting a banner: "warmly welcome Chinese special Olympics athletes".

In his remarks to the crowd, Consul General Liu welcomed the Chinese delegation to attend the Special Olympics Games in Los Angeles across the Ocean. He said that, as the largest-scale sports games around the globe this year, the Los Angeles Games attracts much attention of the Chinese people, who support and concern about the Chinese athletes. Los Angeles has a special meaning to China, for it is where China reaped her first Olympic Gold medal. He hoped the Chinese athletes illustrate the spirits of self-relying and self-overtaking to enjoy sports and games, showing the good image of all Chinese athletes and strengthen the communication and exchanges with the athletes from other countries. He believed that the Chinese delegation would stay in Los Angeles with pleasure and laughters and leave
with profound emotions of friendship. He assured full commitments of the Chinese Consulate General to providing all necessary support and assistance.

Ms. Wang Meimei, Head of the Chinese delegation, Deputy Director-General of China Disabled Persons' Federation and Executive Chairwoman of the Special Olympics Committee of China, extended her gratitude to the cheering crowd. She said that, moved by the scene upon reaching the American soil, the Chinese delegation would double their efforts to do their best in the coming games in order to win honor and glory for the motherland and her people.

The Chinese delegation attending the 14th Special Olympics World Summer Games consists of 126 members, 93 among whom are athletes from 20 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. They are taking part in altogether 69 disciplines of 10 sports, namely track and field, swimming, basketball, football, table tennis, weightlifting, gymnastics, roller skating, bocce and badminton. They are also attending several non-sport activities in the course of the Games, such as the Healthy Athletes Program and the Host Town Program.
