Around 200 representatives of the athletes and staff of the delegations, local overseas Chinese, Chinese Americans and members of media participated in the function.

Addressing the party, Consul General Liu Jian extended his warm welcome to the guests and congratulations to the athletes on their excellent performance and extensive friendship they've formed in the course of the Games, which not only brought honor to the Chinese nation and people, but also showed to the world the sound and dynamic development of the special Olympics athletics in China and the good image of the Chinese athletes. He believed that the athletes would double their efforts in the remaining schedule, take the pleasure and friendship harvested in Los Angeles home and do well with everything thereafter. He also expressed gratitude to the local overseas Chinese, Chinese Americans and members of media for spiritual and material support to the delegations and the full coverage of their performance. He hoped everyone spend a happy evening at the Consulate General.

Ms. Wang Meimei, Head of the Chinese delegation, Mr. Yeung Tak Wah, Head of the Hong Kong delegation, Mr. Paul Pun, Head of the Macau delegation, and Miss Qu Xinli, Roller-skater of the Chinese delegation representing the athletes, made remarks respectively. They all underlined the warm feeling of being made at home, thanks to the full-scale care and support by the Consulate General and the Chinese community in Los Angeles, which inspired the athletes to compete in their highest spirits and have won a considerable number of medals. During the Games, the athletes made friends with a wide range of American people and athletes from the other countries, and they also enjoyed much of the beautiful landscape of Southern California. They were confident that the athletes would finish the journey of Los Angeles Special Olympics Games with abundant pleasure and gains.

The reception hall of the Consulate General was finely decorated with festive elements. Representatives of the athletes and members of the local Chinese community, together with the staff of the Consulate General, staged brilliant performances of various styles, filling the hall with laughters and cheers. The celebration party reached its climax when the chorus of the Consulate General, led by Consul General Liu and his wife, Mrs. Chen Xiaoling, began singing the passionate melodies of a popular Chinese song: March towards Rejuvenation.
