Wang Yi Meets with Brazilian Foreign Minister Carlos Alberto Franco França via Video Link

On October 21, 2021, State  Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Brazilian Foreign Minister  Carlos Alberto Franco França via video link.

Wang Yi said that China and  Brazil are globally influential countries and representatives of emerging market  economies. The two countries are highly responsible for maintaining world peace  and promoting world development. Both countries should sustain and strengthen  strategic communication, consolidate the foundation for political trust, support  each other's core interests, and stick to the development paths that suit our  national conditions.

Wang Yi said that China and  Brazil should join hands to combat the pandemic, and deepen pragmatic  cooperation in all fields. China will continue to provide Brazil with finished  and bulk vaccines, and cooperate with Brazil in vaccine development and  production till the latter overcomes the pandemic. China welcomes Brazil to the  fourth China International Import Expo and will import more high-quality  agricultural products. The two countries should extend communication and  cooperation in technology, satellite, cultural exchanges and other fields and at  local levels, intensify financial cooperation, and carry out cooperation in  digital economy, smart agriculture, smart city and other emerging sectors. China  hopes and believes that Brazil will continue to ensure a fair, just and  non-discriminatory market for Chinese enterprises in Brazil and hold an  objective and open attitude towards the cooperation in communications  technologies represented by 5G. He welcomed Brazilian athletes to the XXIV  Olympic Winter Games to be held in China.

Wang Yi added that China and  Brazil should act as pacesetters in the practice of multilateralism, pioneers in  the development of an open economy, and good partners in boosting sustainable  development. He hopes that Brazil will support and join the Global Development  Initiative proposed by China. China will work with Brazil to implement the  consensuses and achievements of the 13th BRICS Summit, oppose attempts to  politicize the pandemic, label the virus and use origins tracing as a tool, and  bring the BRICS mechanism to steady, solid and long-term progress. China will  join hands with Brazil to lead G20 cooperation and global economic governance in  the right way, and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the emerging  markets and developing countries. Both countries may work together within the  framework of BASIC countries to cope with climate change and adhere to the goals  and principles set forth in the Paris Agreement.

França said that Brazil attaches  great importance to the Brazil-China comprehensive strategic partnership, and  gives top priority to enhancing cooperation with China. Brazil appreciates  China's generous support for its combat against the pandemic, and will continue  to extend cooperation with China including vaccine cooperation. Brazil will  facilitate the steady development of bilateral cooperation in the fields of  economy and trade, investment, agriculture, space, science and technology, and  climate change. Brazil restates that it will not exclude any equipment supplier  of 5G technology. Brazil believes that China will host a splendid Olympic Winter  Games in Beijing. Brazil and China should strengthen strategic coordination in  the multilateral mechanism. China will take BRICS rotating chairmanship next  year and Brazil will vigorously support China in promoting BRICS  cooperation.
